Top Ten Ski Resorts
Well, it’s winter, so I’m going to be focussed on skiing for a LONG time.
And seeing as it’s theme post time, and I have to produce some form of list, here’s my favourite places to go skiing in Switzerland:
- Davos/Klosters. Two linked resorts with five separate skiable areas. Klosters is more upmarket than Davos, but both are great
- St Moritz. People Watching or Skiing? Fortunately both are great here.
- Verbier. Fantastic runs, a big challenge and a party atmosphere.
- Zermatt. It has the Matterhorn. That would be enough on its own, but there is also great skiing and a lovely town.
- Flims/Laax. Excellent choice of runs, and it’s very often sunny.
- Portes du Soleil. Literally doors to the sun; it’s a little low, but massive. Ski The Wall and then tell people about it for ever!
- Wengen/Grindelwald. How could we leave out the Bernese Oberland? Skiing under the shadow of the Eiger and Jungfrau and with the Schilthorn on the other side of the valley. A week there beckons.
- Gstaad. I’m actually not that keen on this area, but people with loads of cash seem to like it, so if you’re in that category, please go here.
- Flumserberg. This is where you should go for a day trip from Zurich…
- Hoch Ybrig. Now keep quiet about this - it’s the area close to Zurich where I tend to ski most, so make sure everyone else goes to Flumserberg!
There are of course, many more - memories of the Piste Nationale at Crans Montana nearly rated a mention for example, but why not tell me what your favourite places are?
