Swiss Camera Museum – Vevey

Swiss Camera Museum – Vevey

I discovered at the weekend that there is a camera museum at Vevey.
It contains exhibits like the first ever production Leica, see above.
The museum is set on Lake Geneva, not far from Chateau Chillon and covers photography from it’s beginnings just over a century ago, right up to today. It covers techniques as well as equipment, with features on the inventors of milestone equipment.
The permanent exhibition features magic lanterns, camera obscura etc,  in a 500 square metre setting.  And photographers past and present are featured in regularly changing special exhibitions.
For youngsters, there are many games and hands-on installations.

Swiss Photos of the week

Sometimes I think that the Swiss flag should be green, white and blue.

Maybe with a bit of brown to represent the cows too.

Today I’m featuring a series of photos taken by StrahlemannBE that show Switzerland in its classic natural summer beauty.

I’m guessing that the BE at the end of the name mens that Herr Strahlemann comes from the Canton of Bern,

but some of these pictures were apparently taken in Obwalden,  one of the original cantons to form the Swiss (or Helvetic) Confederation in 1291.

Whatever, I hope you’ll agree with me that Herr S has done a great job, and that Switzerland …read more

Swiss Photos of the week.

Time for a weekly review of some of the best photos (at least, the best in my opinion) to come out of Switzerland this week.
First up was Kev Allen’s photo of the Jet d’eau at sunset, down in Geneva.  I love the spiral of water on that.
Next, MeckiM@c’s study of the undulating green countryside around Rigi, where the wrestling will take place this weekend.

Then on to a moody cereal field shot by ponte1112:

and the obligatory black and white shot in the city. Zurich Main Station, or HB as it is known.
Belpo caught it looking pretty empty after the throngs of …read more

Zürich – EM Party town

Zürich – EM Party town

Just a few pics from L_K_M giving a bit of the party atmosphere. The first is looking out over the Fanzone at Sechsaläutenplatz.

The neatly lit Grossmunster in the background.

And a couple of nice shots of the bridge from Bürkliplatz to Bellevue.

Even More Photos of Chateau Chillon

Based on the popularity of my previous post on the subject, I thought it only right to play to the audience and deliver some further views of the wondrous Chateau Chillon. The first shot, above, was taken on one of those lovely days where the mountains seem to come so much closer. The Dents du Midi, near the skiing resort of Champery, are visible here.

This shot shows just what amazing skies can be seen, although I suspect a bit of filtering or photoshopping has taken place. Whatever, it’s beautiful and a great shot.

It’s worth a trip in winter too. Old …read more

First week of the EM – Photos

Lest we forget what it’s all about, here’s a photo of some actual football. One of the best exponents of the game with the ball at his feet.

Looks like rain?
Oh yes! My God it tipped down. Fortunately I was under cover, but still got soaked.

Two countries that have impressed so far – Holland and Portugal.  And the fans have all been remarkably well-behaved…

…even with the amount of beer that is being consumed!

In my previous post I described one of Switzerland’s best known monuments.
Today, I figured I missed a chance to really show it off, so here are some photos of it that I really like.
I hope they show how the character of the place changes with the seasons and light.

Some interesting light effects this week. First (above) a steamship on Lake Geneva.
And very local to me, the wooden bridge in Baden.

The night of the churches in St Gallen:

And finally for no apparent reason, a random picture from Bern, just because there’s something about it I like.
