A Swiss Alphabet
Inspired by MJ’s travel A-Z on flyaway cafe, I thought I’d come up with a Swiss version. So without further ado, here’s a list plucked at random from the depths of my brain:
Andermatt - Some great ski runs, and pretty much the centre of Switzerland
Biel - Or Bienne - they are the same place.
Chur - Centre of the Eastern Swiss Ski Resorts
Davos - Economics with skis.
Engelberg - Mountain of the Angel, with a revolving cable car.
Furka - Railway and Pass.
Glarus - Home of the Klausen Rennen, A beautiful pass.
Hoch Ybrig - My favourite local ski resort
Interlaken - Switzerland’s own Interlagos - without the race track
Jura - The other mountauins (not the Alps)
Kreuzlingen - On the border with Konstanz, and on the shore of Europe’s third largest lake.
Luzern - Toursit centre of Switzerland
Murten - A small lake, with a really picturesque town
Neuchatel - Home of the wine festival
Olten - The crossroads of Europe. At least for trains.
Pfäffikon - The funniest name in Switzerland?
Quimper - Somewhere that begins with Q…
Ronco - A village on lake Lugano
Schwyz - The town they named the country after
Thun - A great town, beautiful lake, fab restaurant
Urnersee - Part of Lake Lucerne
Vaduz - OK it’s in Liechtenstein, but it’s sooo close.
Wildhaus - A great rack-railway leading up to a great view of the Walensee (two Ws for the price of one)
Xamax - The football team in Neuchatel
Yverdon - The ancient baths
Zug - The German word for train, or a pretty town on the lake of the same name.
