More photos of Chateau Chillon

ch2.jpg

In my previous post I described one of Switzerland’s best known monuments.

Today, I figured I missed a chance to really show it off, so here are some photos of it that I really like.

I hope they show how the character of the place changes with the seasons and light.

ETERNAL Spirit of the chainless Mind!
Brightest in dungeons, Liberty! thou art,
For there thy habitation is the heart—
The heart which love of Thee alone can bind.
And when thy sons to fetters are consign’d,
To fetters, and the damp vault’s dayless gloom, Their country conquers with their martyrdom,
And Freedom’s fame finds wings on every wind.
Chillon! thy prison is a holy place
And thy sad floor an altar, for ’twas trod,
Until his very steps have left a trace
Worn as if thy cold pavement were a sod,
By Bonnivard! May none those marks efface!
For they appeal from tyranny to God.

I love the architecture in what I”m guessing is a tunnel heading off from the beach area. I was wondering how they could support that weight so close to the water. Looks like everything rests on rocks.

    Great Pictures

    All, thanks for the comments!

No idea if the first photo is HDR Wade, but it’s listed in a “dynamically created” group whatever that means.

And I’ve never seen that piece of poety before – thanks wareq!

It certainly is a very rocky area, the mountains are just on the other side of the lake, it’s a great piece of architecture.

Human beings are amazing creatures when they’re not killing each other.

Bodensee? Now there’s an idea. It’s called Lake Constance in English, and I used to live in Constance (Konstanz) so I should be able to come up with something :-)

And 6pack Abs, we are amazing creatures, and sometimes leave monuments like Chillon behind. We also get to see fabulous things and interpret them in different ways to each other.

Does anyone know if you can rent the castle for a movie shoot? or who you would contact about more details.

    Thanks,

Josh, you can rent it for an evening, so maybe you could get it for a film.

I’m going to Zurich next year. How far is it from Zurich? But it won’t be a problem, I guess, as Switzerland isn’t a very big country.

Hi Funny Guy. Zurich to Montreux takes about 2.5 hours on the train. You can walk from there if you are feeling up to it, catch a boat, or a train is about 30 mins.

Switzerland is great. I used to work for Swiss Air in Chicago and judging by the passenger I would say that people are very polite and nice and at the same time firm.

I have members of Family also live in Zurich. But never been there. Love these photos really. Just hope that if In mylife time can visit once.
